Yellow, is it me you're looking for?

I liked 'yellow' a lot when I was a kid. I had worn it from head to toe. I even played 'Yellow 5' back when Bioman became the kids' champions in the old days. Why yellow? To me, it represented happiness and warmth (also because all of the best colors were already 'dibbed' by my playmates). I started liking other colors few years after My closet was filled mostly by anything 'pink, red, white and purple.' Hardly a yellow until today.

I went to school wearing a yellow blouse which I bought from a colleague. I remember I had sworn never to wear such kind of hue due to a particular reason (ahem, let us put politics aside). I over heard one of my colleagues said she disliked it (haha, why not, she can say whatever she wants after all this is a free country.. isn't it?). For her and the general public, yellow is singularly tied with the current and his forebear's administration. I am not going to contest it but rather add more to the meaning of yellow instead.

Yellow, from a magazine I read years back, means 'jealousy.' This is particularly true with flowers. So if a guy decides to give the apple of his eyes a bundle of yellow roses, the message he wants to convey might be obscured by the color. I am very sure he would not want to sing 'teach me how to douggie,' when his romance fails.

Speaking of songs, yellow is linked with Orlando and Dawn's "Tie me a yellow ribbon around the ole oak tree." It's quite a familiar tune that everyone just simply hums along and taps their fingers. The song implies that should the girl still be in love with a guy who is leagues away (or in prison), she must tie a yellow ribbon around that tree.

The song was later revived when the US Embassy in Tehran, Iran was taken over by a group of ideological slash leftist students. Quoting my husband, Ayatollah Khomeini refused to alleviate the situation and instead said that it was the students who had done the hostage taking. The employees were mostly Americans (and marines at that). Thus reverberating the cause to free the victims, the song was played on the airwaves. "Tie me a yellow ribbon around that ole oak tree."

Yellow represents victory too especially in sports. If you know Lance Armstrong, then chances are you may wish to wear a yellow shirt too. It is the color for the champion in Tour de France which begins and ends in Paris, France.

The color is also a Janus faced. While it represents success in certain areas, it is also associated with defeat or cowardliness. Jeff, my other half shares some tid bits:

"Back in 1800's, yokels chided individuals who were coward by saying, "Are yer yellah? or 'R yer yeller?"

He added that this quote was frequently heard from western type of movies. "What's the matter" Are you afraid to see Tommy outside? Are yer yellah?"

Yellow too became the attributed color for the Asians used by other races (Westerners). There is a hint of bias and discrimination by such term.

The color is likewise linked with diseases such as Hepatitis and more.

The meaning of yellow may go on until the next few pages. Should I wear any clothe with that same color? Maybe yes.. maybe no. I say 'its all depends.'
