Twice I've sighed on this kind of light

I never really liked Twilight and thankfully enough, I didn't give a thought of watching any of the series at the cinema. However yesterday just to say I've seen it, I downloaded the last sequel of the series. And tonight, I have... painfully finished watching breaking dawn part 2. I couldn't sit through the whole 2 hours of the film, hence I skipped some scenes.

These are some of the things that I've noticed (watched it all for the sake of criticizing this horrible crap).

1. The lens. The company they tapped must have become rich by now. I don't know if there's a natural look for a vampire, but I guarantee that none of the stars ought to look like them.

2. The swiveling door. Throughout the film, the camera pans in and out as the actors tries to look at someone or at Bella. Pan here, swivel to the left and right.

3. The comical stare. In relation to the lenses they have worn, I can't help but pick on their wide eyed gazes while they talk to one another. Needless to say, their actions and mannerism were done poorly. It was as if they were on stage... practicing their lines. But then again, what would you expect from them.

4. Gory titillates both the director and writer's taste. I can only hope they have seen Hitchcock's series and know that for a suspense sort of action movie, it doesn't necessarily need ripping heads off etc.

I'd rate this film on a scale of 1-10, 1 for their effort and wasting my time.

Detoxing Mind from Ramblings

***
I've started watching Led Zeppelin concerts some days ago. I initially didn't like it but after watching Song Remains the Same again, I eventually fell in love. It was an overwhelming feeling to see Robert (the young) go wild on stage together with Jimmy Page, Bonzo and John Paul. Why can't concerts be like the ones they did before? Why can't singers be as diverse, creative and funky as they were?

Led Zeppelin, together with Queen, David Bowie, The Doors and The Who are all the "bestest bands" ever. If there is one thing I ever regret is to have been born way ahead of their time.

Does anyone have a magic pill  called 'wind the hands of time'?

I love to work but hate the stress.

Pinaiyak nanaman ninyo ako....

.... in a good way.

It was right after the group performance that one of their classmates (sorry iho, I'll try to remember names next time),  told me the whole class was to give me something. I was naturally surprised. I didn't, even in my wildest dreams, expect to be serenaded and offered sweet messages from my students.. from them.

Ang bait nyo, sobra. Dapat ako magbigay ng tribute sa inyo.

Should I have now the reservation to post anything, even if it doesn't concern the institution? I am but an ordinary person part of a burgeoning society. Would my opinion matter and be used against me if the text is interpreted vindictively against them... or it?

Shades of activities

Random thoughts just before I wrap things up for tonight.

I am exquisitely thankful the 2-day exam is over. Happy moments with review buddies, Eva M. and Pat I. will surely be missed! I look forward to the next stage of this course.

What does 50 Shades of Grey mean?

Shades I know, but what makes it 50? LOL. I have no blonde moments but out of curiosity I downloaded the pdf version of E.L. James' book. Initially, I thought it was just all about the mundane desires of a guy.. Lo and behold.. it was.

The first few chapters of the book was entertaining. I was thinking that the author wanted to get straight to her point--- instantaneous coital relationships with the characters. A great deal of suspension of disbelief is necessary in order to accept the story from the heroine's perspective.

I finished reading it, skipping the lengthy contracts they have included in the first series of the novel. I may have missed in great detail their talk slash quarrel about the food... among other clauses that needed to be struck out. It was too repetitious, phrases (exact) appeared so many times... this is the type of book I wouldn't want to read all over again.

My copy of James' book is now heading straight to recycle bin and in a few seconds, will be departing from my lappy's hard drive.

Mayabang Ako Ngayon.

Mayabang Ako Ngayon.

by Anna Rose Fueconcillo Hull on Saturday, 8 September 2012 at 18:36 ·
Earlier today(it's Mary's Birthday!), I gave an (first) examination to my literature class. I have been putting it off for so long a time. It was either my students weren't ready or I was just too reluctant to give any. Halfway through perhaps with the exam, I glanced over a student who reciprocated me with a smile. I don't remember if I smiled back. I was busy at the time reading my notes that I'd be presenting at the graduate school. After few minutes, I decided to make my rounds in the room and then... she approached me. She asked me to read a story printed on a paper. Admittedly I was hesitant.. and inquired if what she wanted me to read was a chain mail. She quickly quipped it wasn't and I felt obliged to read it anyway.

The story I read was about a student who was suppose to give a ribbon to a person whom he thinks has changed his life... view the whole article... check the whole article out: http://www.snopes.com/glurge/difference.asp. Mind you though... I've no suicidal tendencies but it's the thought that counts. ;)

After reading it, she 'awarded' me a blue ribbon in front of class and endearingly said that I've made a difference in their or her life.

Salamat sa class ninyo. I would have to say, you bring out the best and good in me. Salamat BSA 1-11.

I am an addict. lol

And I meant that not in a wrong way. I'm quite passionate about the books that I read (be it historical or what have you). I love listening to music, most of which were lovingly introduced to me by my hubby. I also love playing video games.

I started with Xbox, then wii and now with ps3. Some of the games that I've the chance of playing were:

Xbox:
Assassin's Creed I and II
Fable
Sid Meier's Civilization
And sort of a card game (the name escapes my lips)
Nascar
 Need for Speed

Wii:
Monopoly
Super Mario from first version sort of game to galaxy
Animal Crossing
Harvest Moon
Shadow

Ps3
Need for Speed
Skyrim

I have yet to try Fallout among others. I've no desire however to play scary games as I might just toss the controllers against the TV. (lol).

It's great (without much feeling of remorse) to have some days off from work and enjoy the time.

Random slurs of the moment

It is not surprising that teachers too slip a smile on their faces whenever instant holiday is declared. Why not? Teachers are like everybody else and thus need to have even the tiniest bit of break. A moment to free themselves from voluminous paper works and demands from school.

****
Few months ago, a tremendous hype was built over the movie Hunger Games. It was either the story was good or Liam Hemsworth spoke rather sweetly in Australian accent. I watched the movie last summer together with my niece. We didn't really like it too much. I can't speak for my niece but the whole plot was just simply shallow (at this point, I might be reminded by one of my students to suspend my disbelief). A nation with too much number of teenagers. The only recourse is to select one representative each year to be sent in a blood bath game. (rolls eyes)

Last night my hubby and I watched Battle Royale. The plot was exactly the same as with Hunger Games... or Hunger Games (both novel and movie) was copied from BR. Every bit of idea was BR in style. However, between BR and HG, the latter is by far better.

I'll give Hunger Games 1 out of 10 for an effort they made to replicate BR. On the other hand, BR is worthy of either 9 or 10 for an action pack, comical slurs of the moments and teenage romance rolled into one.

Unforgivable Bond

The most horrendous part of making movie series is when the director (or producer perhaps even the franchisor) decides to change everything. I've been watching James Bond together with my husband for a number of nights. I fell in love with Sean Connery and Roger Moore and yes, Pierce Brosnan. It's tremendously difficult to say which is the best of the three, but I like them all nonetheless. They have this air of "Bond-ness" -- a dignified MI6 agent who is misogynist in a way but still a great lover of women. These gentlemen had the charm, charisma and sense of humor .. unlike the Daniel Craig.

The latest 2 Bond films were a total disappointment. The removed all the Bond qualities- perversity and romance, Money Penny, and Cue. What even made it too generic was the inclusion of Judy Dench as M and her being surrounded by all other assistants and secretaries.

While it can be said that the special effects were great, these films cannot still be at par with the classics.

Should there be anymore Bond series, I hope it wouldn't be Craig or ladies who slur their own words.

Random Thoughts today

Just had an exhausting but nonetheless enjoyable week. I finally met all of my students for this school year. Let's see how the semester works for both me and them.

***
Anybody who thinks that Casino Royale is a great film must be crazy. It totally detached itself from the whole (yes, my husband and I have been seeing the whole series almost every night) Bond concept. The actor wasn't that good, a tremendous breakaway from Bond look. The leading lady slurred and ate much of the words. I just had to suck it up and sit still while watching this film.

It's a 3 out of 10 for me. The saving grace was the car he was provided by the agency.

Great Disappointment with Dr. Who

Don't get me wrong. I love Dr. Who. The first and especially the fourth. Tom Baker was a superb and very interesting Doctor throughout the series. The story itself is unique and intellectual in approach. His series took the audience literally in another world and dimension. For me and my husband, he is the best Doctor ever.

Unfortunately, BBC and new series of the show tried to outdo Tom Baker's. They literally changed the whole plot and idea. They have even made Doctor a womanizer and allowed this blond chick  (Billie Piper) to stay through out the full 2 seasons. What is even worse is they travel not through different world but in time. Bleck/

Utter disappointment

Love letter for PNoy

****
Dear Mr. President,

Maalab na pagbati sa inyo Mr. President. I hope Mr. Sunday is treating you quite nicely. I am writing to you a letter to wish not only for your 'well' being but to share what I have just struck (an idea) myself today.

I am not a religious person. I may have not attended church masses lately. This is something I am not proud about. But the point being is that I've reminded myself of so many values I was able to fish out from wise gentlemen including men in cloaks. Forgive and move on. If a person points his accusing finger to one has commit an error, the rest of his fingers joins in pointing at the opposite (meaning ung taong nagtuturo). Four times more that person has committed mistakes (gravity of these errs may depend).

Papalapit na Mahal na Araw. Magtika. Magtanong. Magbulay. Work towards the alleviation of poverty, and not for disunity.

Oh sige na. Dami pa akong gagawin.

Luv u na. Tsup tsup. ahaha.

Pop Corn Series and randomness

Finally tonight my husband and I were able to watch a movie together. I have actually no inkling for a chic flick (well, I have my mood swings) but we watched it nonetheless. The movie, "Hangover," is a story about 4 guys who went to Vegas to celebrate one of their buddies forth coming marriage. Each guy has unique characteristic but all had something in common- being duffus. ahehe. I shall not tell anything more, you'll have to see the movie yourselves.

Random Thoughts on Various Cases

Yellow.

When I was a kid, I used to pretend I was a Bioman member. You know that Japanese kids show where the bidas shout prominent color then their respective number? I was 'yellow four' or sometimes, 'red one' being that I liked to be the leader of the gang. Eventually my infatuation with the color faded away when Cory Aquino stepped in and her bleep son, followed her footsteps (without conceivably doing any note worthy). Pardon my harshness towards the guy, but I just personally do not like him that much. And so was the color.

But this time of year, there is a wind of change. Change. It would be nice to see a whisk of change in various places, including at my university.

Yes. Change. When would we know if it works if we would not give 'it' a chance, eh? Savvy?

Deep thought on Johnny Depp

The first time I watched Pirates of Caribbean, I squirmed. It was not because of the actor nor the story line or even the effects. Just that I bought a pretty bad pirated (heh, get it lol) copy of the movie, that everything was rather dim and audio, quite horrible.

Two nights ago, my husband and I watched it (as part of our movie 'night in house' date). Being that I saw the movie long time ago would have given me the license to fall asleep. But nay. The downloaded copy was too good and crisp on a big screen, I watched it intently.

The next night, we watched the sequel and the following, the latest. Johnny Depp's performance was excellent and very entertaining. I was to have watched them all.

Savvy.

*******
Bourne to listen this.

Who is fed up of Bourne? A couple of has gone by but still people have this tremendous desire to watch the latest series of the film. I am too, since part of it was shot at my school.

Anyways, my husband liked (not so much though) all of Bourne movies plus their songs.

Here's one (which I used a part of my AVP for History Department).

The idiot and Bad teacher

Does anybody know anyone who has that power trip attitude? or people making fun of stupid people? Can you identify yourself as an individual who would do what it takes to be promoted and risk everything else?

Last night my husband and I did another round of movie date. Right before we watched Steve Carrell's movie (Dinner for Schmucks), we graced our time with this 70s sort of film, "Dazed and confused." The title says it all-- leaving the audience literally dazed and confused about teenagers having explosive destructive genes. My husband commented that the director lost touch that 70s touch. Quoting him, "nobody in the 70s wore signature shirts."

Did high school male students receive a swat on the butt after they graduate elementary? I asked him.

"Non. To see anyone with a paddle right in the street is to invite police arrest."

Should you become interested about this film, I BEG YOU, move on down to the next title you have in your list. Save yourself from confusion and boredom.

****
Alright, as I was saying earlier, perhaps a handful of individuals would risk everything to be promoted. That was what Paul Rudd had planned. He worked in this big corporation about to sink in a hole. A previous senior officer was kicked off from his post for lack of better contribution. This gave Paul the opportunity to ascend by joining the meeting of executives and emboldened himself with a superfluous idea. The CEO (I forgot his name) caught on with Paul's idea and soon afterwards, he invited the former to a dinner (for schmucks).

There was a catch however with dinner party, Paul was told by one of the senior colleague to bring a schmuck and should not tell anyone about it.

Will do it? or not?

"Everything happens for a reason." (one of the quotes from the movie)

Yes, everything happened for a reason. While Paul was driving for home to see his girlfriend, he ran over a guy (yes, the schmuck) who unconsciously was crossing down the street. Barry (played by Steve Carrell) was apologetic with what has happened. He asked Paul how much the former has to pay the latter. Confused? That was what Paul. Suddenly, something had sunk in Paul's mind--- that right before him was a --- SCHMUCK!!

I personally liked the movie. Both me and my hubby thought that finally Steve had done an effortless good job.

If you want to be entertained and really feel for the characters, this is one of the good movies to watch!

*******
I have had moments when I was a bad teacher. I have yelled at students before and threw their class cards out by the window (okay, that was a little bit of an exaggeration hehe). But then again, you would have to come and realize that there are OTHERS who have done much worse than what I had. Literally worse.

Speaking of worse, Cameron Diaz encapsulated that negative instructor in "Bad teacher." She was the antithesis of what students expected from a teacher. She is blonde, sexy, attractive and desperate (to settle to a rich man).

Now she got in as a high school teacher is beyond me.

I thought at first the film would be boring. Justin Timberlake was in it and to me that's an indication the movie is ready to sink down the drain. As it turned out, it wasn't.

I shan't tell anything more other than, this is a good film too.

Tee hee. Peace.

Those were the days my friend

My husband and I decided to take LRT the other day. Our destination was a nearby mall where we can buy fresh items. It was late in the afternoon and as expected, the train was a little bit packed. As soon as it stopped, instead of letting the passengers alight, the passengers waiting outside began to rush in as though there was no tomorrow. They immediately slumped their huge rears flat on the benches. They have seem to have forgotten to let the passengers in the train get off first or at least be considerate to old people, handicapped and even pregnant women. If there is any strain left of chevalier attitude, it certainly could be present to only a handful of individuals. Those were the days my friend.

Then and Now

I was about blank - teen when I went to PUP to take my entrance exam. I could not remember exactly where my room was but it was on 6th floor, west wing, odd number. I had to climb the stairs fronting Sampaguita. I had my mum with me (as opposed to many who brought their teams, clans and the whole barangay). I don't remember the whole exam except for the part I had placed my answers incorrectly on the sheet. This dawned on me the last few minutes when I reached the last question. I thought I was done with the test but there it was number 15 or so of the non verbal reasoning. Oblivious, I had skipped an item leaving me a number without any answer nor question.

The good luck lady smiled at me though. I was able to remember which answer went to what. I had done it like a speeding bullet.

Thankfully, I made it!

I wish the best of luck to all the examinees who took their test today! I hope the lady luck smiles at you!

Pop Corn Series: American Beauty and Harry Series

Every night's a movie date with my husband. Yes, every night. We never miss out a time where we can watch a film together. He gets to see more than I do during the day though but I think what he watches are the type that I wouldn't like. (While writing this though he vehemently denies it hehe).

Last night we saw American Beauty. Starring Khevin Spacey as a lousy husband with perverted mind and Annette Benning, a sex deprived bitch wife. They have a daughter together who was once sweet I guess you can say turned emo.

A family moves in next to their house. The guy was a former member of the marines while the mother was a patient of some sort from a hospital. Their son was a emo as Kevin's daughter can be except he is in the habit of taking videos of any kind (from things to people). I could not remember his name though but his pair of eyes are unforgettable. The father of that boy is shown as too strict and hates gays. The mother on the other hand is too meek and submissive. One time, the boy was hit by the father for prying the former's China wares in the curio. (gee whiz).

Little did that marine father know, his son is selling dope to Kevin Spacey. This went on for a couple of days until one time, Kevin waved at the boy to call him. The marine father became too suspicious. Eventually, he saw his son run an errand right at Kevin's house. Through the window panes, he saw his son giving a taboo to Kevin. That killed him.

To cut the long story short, the marine father killed Kevin. Now I am not telling the other aspects of the film (it has been a long day for me). I liked the movie nonetheless, not because of the perverted ideas that went in it but because it was unusual. You would have to see the film yourself to know what I am saying.

*****

Harry Potter, the boy I never wanted.

A gazzillion of people around that world has come to love and yes hate him. I was a fan of his (but not so much mind you) when the film started out. I in fact read the first book when my brother decided to purchase from a book store.

Just a couple of weeks ago, my husband downloaded all of the series except the last installment. We watched the first 3 (or 4) for 3 consecutive nights and it was a big pain to endure. Very long, shallow and boring. Too many points missed out and scenes that could have just been compressed in a matter of few minutes. Draining is the right word.

Acting wise, most (including the major actors) were not at par with seasoned actors such as Snapes and Malfoy's father or Doris (not my colleague) who for a short period of time replaced Dumbledore at Hogwarts.

What else is there to say other than the whole series is too formulaic.

I am being too kind with my post but it's as good as any bad movie that can put anyone to sleep.

Photo walk, kutsinta at iba pa

Big congratulations to the PUP Department of History and PUP Samahan ng mga Mag-aaral ng Kasaysayan for a very successful photo walk activity. Kudos! It was a great learning experience not only for students but to us (teachers) as well. I look forward for yet another series with you guys, sirs and mam. Who knows, our next stop would be up north or down south. Cheers!

*****

Our activity held last January 25 was met by quite a lot of surprises. I was met by a group of students huddled around the fountain early in the morning. Few meters away was Jordy, PUPSMK president and Jeriece, the treasurer. Next to them were clusters of policemen in different shades of blue and grey (black actually). It was as though Borne movie was being shot right where we were at. They were probably around 15 policemen and 10 SWAT officers. It was a little bit intimidating but right there it dawned on me the weight of this activity. (please excuse my being randomness).

Dressed in black shirts (both students and faculty members), the bystanders must have thought we were on strike or lamenting over the loss of someone imminent to our organization. Regardless of what, I felt secured. We felt secured.

Much thanks to you guys (the policemen) for accommodating our request!

My aim is to finish reading a book at least a day. I decided to read Ambeth's book, Rizal without the overcoat since his stlye of writing wasn't too difficult to read (not that I am being too lazy). I chanced upon a chapter of his book about Kapitan Tiago's house in Binondo! We may have missed the information but certainly not the place!

And the best actor is..

Three months without watching anything from cable T.V. might have put anyone off or feel oblivious. Who wouldn't? Where else (aside from frequent surfing on the net) can anybody get instant and live feed news other than T.V. (although some would most likely say they listen over the radio).

It was my routine every morning to watch news from channel 7. Although letting the T.V. set turned on for almost an hour, right from the time I got up from bed, I mostly missed some of the news reports. Or if not, I paid less attention because of 'useless' tidbits (chicka minutes included) aired over the waves.

From the time my husband and I moved in the new place, we sort of decided not to avail any services from T.V. cable. I was restless. I wanted what was going on. I could access news from my phone but have to pay at a certain price. Two weeks passed by, I was calm. The reason perhaps was that I became less involved with the national political issues or dramas by bruhahas among others.

This year the country is 'bedazzled' by Corona's impeachment. I can only thank my husband that we decided to live without T.V. No extra bills to pay, no failed cable connections. No more of foreign shows that hog the cable. Adieu

****
Out of curiosity of Corona's trial, I checked out inquirer page. On the left side of the news page was series of pictures with candid description. One in particular caught my attention. Tupas.

On the same page where the photo was, I scrolled past the two main paragraphs and chuckled a laugh at Tupas' opening statement. I thought it was funny and very hollow to say the least.

If I was one of those few good men to judge their souls, I would have probably said, "Anyone who is free of guilt or sin, cast thy stone to the accused individual." I am very sure (and my 'shupatembangs' at school) would nod their heads in agreement--- that almost all individuals tapped to play the roles of judges are needless to say, Janus faced. Batu bato sa langit, ang tamaan fangit.

If only..

If only everything was free, perhaps in a span of few minutes (or hours on end) I would be happy. I would not let worry saddle up my shoulder and tinker my brains. If only, yes, if only.

If only I could just dally the whole week long, perhaps I would not have any white strand of hair. I would not stress myself over tumultuous volumes of papers I need to read or check for the matter. If only, sure, if only.

If only the economy was great, it would not cross my mind taking a second job. I would simply lounge in a comfy chair with my laptop on my lap. I would have probably made more than a thousand digital art pieces. If only, I sure wish if only.

If only Gibo won as president, I'd be extremely happy. I would offer pretty (physical and metaphorical) remarks to the chosen guy and believe he could straighten the unrighteous path. If only, holy guacamole, if only.

Yellow, is it me you're looking for?

I liked 'yellow' a lot when I was a kid. I had worn it from head to toe. I even played 'Yellow 5' back when Bioman became the kids' champions in the old days. Why yellow? To me, it represented happiness and warmth (also because all of the best colors were already 'dibbed' by my playmates). I started liking other colors few years after My closet was filled mostly by anything 'pink, red, white and purple.' Hardly a yellow until today.

I went to school wearing a yellow blouse which I bought from a colleague. I remember I had sworn never to wear such kind of hue due to a particular reason (ahem, let us put politics aside). I over heard one of my colleagues said she disliked it (haha, why not, she can say whatever she wants after all this is a free country.. isn't it?). For her and the general public, yellow is singularly tied with the current and his forebear's administration. I am not going to contest it but rather add more to the meaning of yellow instead.

Yellow, from a magazine I read years back, means 'jealousy.' This is particularly true with flowers. So if a guy decides to give the apple of his eyes a bundle of yellow roses, the message he wants to convey might be obscured by the color. I am very sure he would not want to sing 'teach me how to douggie,' when his romance fails.

Speaking of songs, yellow is linked with Orlando and Dawn's "Tie me a yellow ribbon around the ole oak tree." It's quite a familiar tune that everyone just simply hums along and taps their fingers. The song implies that should the girl still be in love with a guy who is leagues away (or in prison), she must tie a yellow ribbon around that tree.

The song was later revived when the US Embassy in Tehran, Iran was taken over by a group of ideological slash leftist students. Quoting my husband, Ayatollah Khomeini refused to alleviate the situation and instead said that it was the students who had done the hostage taking. The employees were mostly Americans (and marines at that). Thus reverberating the cause to free the victims, the song was played on the airwaves. "Tie me a yellow ribbon around that ole oak tree."

Yellow represents victory too especially in sports. If you know Lance Armstrong, then chances are you may wish to wear a yellow shirt too. It is the color for the champion in Tour de France which begins and ends in Paris, France.

The color is also a Janus faced. While it represents success in certain areas, it is also associated with defeat or cowardliness. Jeff, my other half shares some tid bits:

"Back in 1800's, yokels chided individuals who were coward by saying, "Are yer yellah? or 'R yer yeller?"

He added that this quote was frequently heard from western type of movies. "What's the matter" Are you afraid to see Tommy outside? Are yer yellah?"

Yellow too became the attributed color for the Asians used by other races (Westerners). There is a hint of bias and discrimination by such term.

The color is likewise linked with diseases such as Hepatitis and more.

The meaning of yellow may go on until the next few pages. Should I wear any clothe with that same color? Maybe yes.. maybe no. I say 'its all depends.'

Ang Propesora quibs

Have you taken the time to look around you? Or while you're walking down the street, you see people with particular mannerisms (this may mean observing the same lot for a couple of minutes or hours on end and they wind up doing the same idiosyncrasy )? Watching people has been my.. hobby. I always thought you could write a short novel about them. Each individual, by way of looking, has so many things to tell. Their stories might even resemble Hollywood films or may go beyond comparison.

I had brought this up to my husband. Or was it one time when he was so fed up watching soaps he blurted out a unique idea. "Directors should consider this style of narration. I'd be a taxi driver and would often overhear passengers talk about their life. With my big imaginative brain, my mind would wander off to that piece of story I heard from my passenger. The story would snow ball from there!"

**
Observing people. This reminds me of some incidents I and my other half have experienced. Bato-bato sa langit, ang tamaan fangit.

Transporter. This is not about Jason Stratham and his wild action flick, "Transporter." But rather, refers to people who are carriers of diseases in close compartments or space. I've been commuting to school via LRT. I liked it very much (who wouldn't?) except for the fact that most people are careless. They do not bother covering their mouths whenever they cough or sneeze! I shouldn't over react but I can't! After watching a documentary (from discovery) about the spread of diseases (like wild fire), I have become somewhat paranoid. A person who sneezes and unfortunately, forgets to cover his nose or mouth becomes an instant Transporter. He hastily spreads the diseases from point A (where he is standing) all the way up to the last coaster of the train! Eeeks!

Tampons. For lack of a better word to describe, tampon (yes, you know what I mean here) is about a person or group of people who usually follows a crowd in a general direction suddenly stops walking and blocks the flow. The symptoms are any of the following:
1. Slow walker yet occupies too much of a space.
2. Texting while chatting to mates.
3. A sudden quib with a loved one (a manifesto of love, like a guy embraces the girl at the center of path way or shattered love where couple not only breaks their hearts but each others' faces).
4. A group of old people who suddenly realized they wanted to go the opposite direction (meaning, do a counter flow).

Narcisiticus Salamin-ae. I am guilty of this 'crime' and so is 98% of the population (data need not apply). Narcisisticus Salamin-ae (like 'hey' without h) are individuals who are too conscious of how they appear even though they know exactly how they looked like before they left for school or some place else. You can find them anywhere provided there are mirrors or glass panes (like windows or cars).

Exorcist. It refers not to individuals who are the actual exorcists but rather their mannerisms comparable to misbehaved and benighted spirits. Exorcists have eyes that resembles that of the devil and can even rotate their heads 360 degrees. In real life, these are people who are pissed off at others. The sharp mean look on their eyes tells you not to stare back. As the exorcists walk past the poor beings, the former quips incomprehensible words and rotate their heads 360 degrees. Scary!!

to be continued.. or maybe not.

Cheerio!

Department of Tourism needs a good swat on the butt

Unfortunately, I was already on board the train when one of my students sent me a text message.

"Confirmed na po, walang pasok today."

"Next station, Pureza."

Great. That was the only thing I could think of but no worries. I went to school nonetheless. I saw a lot of students waiting outside the university. It was as though they were waiting for a miracle to happen but alas there was none.

I went to CA Office and fortunately saw some of my colleagues. As usual, we had chitchat about here and that til Sir Dong inquired about my thread on Department of Tourism's slogan. I told him it was an extra activities I gave to my students. It was from him that I learned that DOT has been slacking too much. The creativity gene pool of people in the office committed suicide. Can that be the reason why they could not come up with original title for their ad campaign? Please see this link on DOT's copycat issue.

I've read so many great slogans from my students who participated in the discussion #16 . I can not say much for DOT nor to their ad company they hired. Shame. Big shame. Is there really more fun in copying others' ideas? Is it fun to shell out money (Php 5M to the ad company who 'coined' the slogan) to something not even worth a dime?

It's more fun in the Philippines

The Department of Tourism has been the recipient of too many compliments and needless to say complaints from fellow Filipinos and netizens. The title itself begged from others a lot of memes (you can check them out from reddit webpage for pictures and comments). Why is it more fun in the Philippines?

I've asked my students the same questions and here are some of their replies:

I guess, It's more fun here in the Philippines because:
* Filipinos are Happy People :D. Marks of Happiness can be seen on their faces despite of the difficult situations they had.
* Filipinos are family-oriented people. The values and principles being implemented here are much greater than in any other country.

Jefferson Galang, BSBA-MM-3-1N

Apple Joy Roxas, BSBA-MM-3-5
Its more fun here in the Philippines because:
* Filipinos despite of life vicissitudes is still happy and full of hope. You can always find Filipino smiling and praying.
* You can find here the delicious balut and the mouth-watering isaw and quail egg in every corner of the street.

It is more fun in the Philippines (batu-bato sa langit, ang tamaan fangit):
  • lean meat sold from the supermarket is not really lean like what they say. If the whole bit is covered with tattered white bits, then it must be fat.
  • it is only here where you can drink root beer (Sarsi) with egg yolk
  • taking showers during wake is forbidden
  • smoking jeepney commuters are selective signage readers
  • internet providers trick their customers

My Internet Provider: A Paradox

I know you've been reading my posts at facebook lately. I am pretty sure you have seen how much I adore NOT this company for a number of reasons. A word that aptly describes how this provider is paradox.. better yet .. irony.

Just late last year my husband and I decided to avail the service of this company. Why not? We've been with them for about 3 years or less. Sure, we've encountered so many problems with them. We have even filed so many reports on phone and e-mails to their customer hotline about their poor (extremely below the belt) service. I can only think how fed up they were with us (as we are with them) that the minute we filed a report, an immediate action would ensue.

The happy days unfortunately I can recall with this company were the moments we can surf the internet quite (but not really) fast. I could downstream videos from youtube in minutes. My husband had little problems downloading songs for me. I could attach large files. There was no limit. Broadband capping did not exist in either of our minds... until December 26th.

When we finally moved out to our new home, we immediately went with globe. The customer representative was polite and provided as an info slash application paper. She just marked the boxes where I had to fill out. It was like an examination paper where I had to fill them out really fast. I handed out the application form back to her and she told me that our internet will be installed in a matter of days. Hooray to that. But not for long.

Three days after we got our internet, the speed went so slow I could hardly open a page. My husband was irritated and so was I. I called the customer rep and this is what she had said to me:

CR: sorry mam, you have maxed out your allotted bandwidth per day.
Me: what?
CR: you are only allowed to have 1 gig per day for your bandwidth
Me: what? Nobody told us that
CR: sorry, but try to refresh your page past midnight. If you download more videos or music, your internet speed will be reduced from about 30 to 70%
Me: what!? My husband and I want out. We were never told about this!!

To cut the story short, the provider lied to us. There was none what so ever in their brochure that said about broadband capping (or more appropriately in their fair usage policy-- internet limit per day). Sure they have link to their web page but it is a bad url.

A customer has rights in the same manner as the company does. We have paid for a 1mbps with them and the company has agreed to it. Unfortunately, they switched it with something less fruitful.

*hinga ng malalim*

In my total dismay with this crappy provider, I wrote this on my sticky note:

Pay not if you don't get the service you have paid for.
Ask not for they shall not tell.
Tell they will but it shall be sugar coated with lies.
Keep thyself at bay from this provider (hopefully at all times).

When they said unlimited, it is not true.
Blatant LIE!!
NOTE: This is my experience. This is what I felt. This is what I think.

My Manila Project

Welcome everyone to my blog - My Manila Project and a blessed New Year to everyone.
You are probably asking why make another blog after "Ang Propesora"? Is 1 not enough? (or two?)

My Manila Project is my very own portal towards voicing opinions on various subject matters. While it is true that I can post anything I want at Ang Propesora, I prefer not to do so.

Before I let my rantings begin, welcome again and I hope you enjoy reading my tidbits.

Muchas gracias and Happy New Year to everyone!
